Are wood floors expensive?

There are cheaper floors available, but nothing will match the richness and durability of a hardwood floor. The value you add to your home with hardwood flooring will enhance its value when you sell your home.

Can I put a hardwood floor over a concrete subfloor?

Sometimes. You will hear people say yes, and some will say no. The issue with concrete is the amount of water vapor that passes through concrete. Concrete appears solid, but it is actually quite porous. When concrete has a lot of water vapor in it, and something covers it, water tends to condense between the concrete and what has covered the concrete.

Water causes wood to swell or expand. Once that happens, your wood floor is "bigger" than the space it occupies, and it begins to buckle.

Some floors have too much moisture no matter what we do. Others are fine. Others need special precautions to be sure we don't have future problems. There is no way to answer this without inspecting the area and taking moisture measurements.
